Creative Quarterly 28 (Fall 2012)

Graphic & Interactive Design students had work selected for publication in Creative Quarterly. Winning work will be published in the magazine and on the website. 14th Annual How Interactive Design Awards

Woody Harrington (BFA), Danielle Young (BFA) and Sonya Houston (BFA) had their app designs accepted for publication in How's Interactive Design Annual 2013.

Tyler Graphic & Interactive Design Students Sweep Top 3 prizes in Collab Competition

This year's Collab Student Design Competition, "Game On!", challenged student designers to redesign/repackage an existing, iconic game, or design a new game. GAID majors swept all 3 top prizes plus 1 of the 3 honorable mentions awarded! 

Congratulations to: First Place Lou Stuber (BFA); Second Place Lydia Nichols (MFA); Third Place Michelle Gish (BFA); Honorable Mention  Joey Pasko (BFA). These work of Collab winners will be exhibited and honored during the Paula Scher and Seymour Chwast Design Excellence Award ceremony on December 1 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Perelman Building.

Class of 2012 Graduation Awards

We thank the generous donors of the cash awards for the BFA graduates in Graphic & Interactive Design: Hallmark, The Audrey Knopp Memorial Fund, The Allen Koss Memorial Fund and DesignScience.

Allison Kerek received the The Allen Koss Memorial Award and The Kristin Huggins Memorial Award. Her exceptional body of illustration and design includes animation.

The Faculty Choice Award for Best Hybrid Project is given to the graduating senior with the most original and well designed senior thesis project. This year’s recipient was Rachel Schmitz.

The Faculty Choice Award for Best Original Book, is given to a graduating senior for a book that she has written, illustrated and designed. This year’s recipient was Valeriya Nicol.

 The Faculty Choice Award for Best Book Based on an Existing Story, is given to a graduating senior for the re-design and illustration of an existing story. This year’s recipient was Sonya Houston.

 The Faculty Choice Award for Best Senior Project is given to the graduating senior with the most original and well designed senior thesis project. This year’s recipient was Kelly Thorn.

The Faculty Choice Award for Typography is given to a graduating senior whose work exhibits exceptionaand consistent typographic creativity. This year’s recipient was Kelly Thorn.

Graphic Design Alumni Award. Seven awards are given to graduating seniors with the best overall design portfolios in print and/or interactive media. The recipients are chosen from the Senior Design Portfolio class by the design faculty. A portfolio review juried by a group of distinguished alumni determined which 3 seniors would receive the top awards. Allison Kerek (first), Kelly Thorn (second) Woody Harrington (third), Viktoriya Dubskiy, Nicholas Dunlap, Sonya Houston, Amanda Lippert.

The Toby-Lim Sonstroem Memorial Award was given in memory of a recent graduate from the Graphic & Interactive Design program whose life ended tragically this year. Toby was a promising young interactive designer. So this award in his memory was being given for the top Interactive Design work in the class of 2012. The award was shared by two exceptional designers: Nicholas Dunlap and Zachary Kutz. Toby’s friends John Nguyen (BFA) and Teddy Rodriguez (BFA) presented the award.
