MFA/Graduate Program

Authorship of large-scale projects is central to the MFA program. Students in the masters program create the content of their work in seminar and thesis courses. The execution of work in the MFA program is expected to meet the exacting visual and technical demands of the profession as well as the conceptual challenge of authorship.

MFA students work and meet for graduate level classes in a large, dedicated studio that is well equipped for both traditional and new media.

In addition to the required courses in the graduate program, MFA candidates in GAID take elective studio courses for graduate credit which may include advertising, art direction, corporate identity, illustration, interactive design, digital narrative, advanced typography, packaging, publishing and special topics. They also have the opportunity to take courses and interact with MFA candidates and faculty outside the design discipline.

Faculty committees meet at regular intervals with MFA candidates to review their progress. At the end of the final semester MFA candidates are required to mount an exhibition of their work, write a thesis statement and submit a digital portfolio in order to meet the degree requirements.
